Sat Jun 25, 2011
Fri Sep 30, 2011
Location: Atrium
On June 25th, MOA will open Shared Joys and Sorrows, a photographic exhibition produced by Richard and Michele Steckel. This exhibition will showcase their work across the globe with the Milestones Project, an endeavor focused on common humanity and social justice. Shared Joys and Sorrows chronicles interviews with citizens of various cultures, as they discuss the milestones in their lives and demonstrates the common experiences all races, religions, and cultures share.
Richard and Michele Steckel have worked for almost a decade on the Milestones Project, attempting to bridge the gap between cultures by focusing on the similarities between them rather than their differences. Through reaching out to children to demonstrate the common experiences of our shared humanity, the Milestones Project attempts to create a culture of peace.
Shared Joys and Sorrows is a photographic story of the children and families interviewed; it is accompanied by personal accounts of their experiences and what these milestones have meant to them. Shared Joys and Sorrows will be on exhibit in the Englewood Civic Center atrium from June 25th through September 30th.
